Last week a similar strand ran through stories ranging from the Norwegian massacre to the dry politics of the Eurozone and the financial markets. It was the bloodied strand of the Far Right and its ideology.  If you glanced at the Net you would see UK Vince Cable, Liberal party member and current Business Secretary in the Cameron Government discussing the American debt crisis and telling the  BBC:

“…the irony of the situation at the moment is that the biggest threat to the world financial system comes from a few right-wing nutters in the American Congress rather than the Eurozone”.

He’s talking about the Tea Party, the Party itself being funded by US Big Business according to

If only we could say that’s just politics and leave it at that. But it was a warped political vision forged under years of benevolent socialism which helped Norway’s Anders Behring Breivik kill innocent children and young people. Canvassing his background, the BBC and other outlets report that, like Timothy McVeigh, the Oklahoma bomber who killed 168 people, he found his enemy in the Government.  

The BBC’s John Madslien reports that “the suspect, it seems, is no pure nationalist”.

“Instead, he is said to be a right-wing extremist of the kind that police authorities in the West have feared for some time.

Their fear has been heightened by the potentially explosive mix of economic recession and unemployment, increasing racism and an ever stronger anti-Muslim sentiment, according to the Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten.  Are we heading in that direction with child poverty, huge inequalities and a new multicultural society?
