I’m very confused about all the different types of batteries and have so many questions—what do the different types mean? Are they all hazardous? Which batteries are recyclable and which aren’t? What about the wee round ones like those from my husband’s hearing aids that sometimes get sucked up into my vacuum cleaner?
We recently set up a food rescue service at Nelson Environment Centre and called it Kai Rescue. Rescue is the operative word because since we began five weeks ago we’ve rescued 5.8 tonnes of perfectly edible food – and that’s just from two of the seven Nelson supermarkets and a couple of one-off food producers.
In the last issue Sarah described in disturbing detail the way we, by comparison to our parents’ generation, waste food. In short: We think about food too much, buy too much, cook too much, eat too much and end up chucking out too much…
