I don’t really remember much about my early Christmases but this one was different.
This was the year I got a big blow-up beach ball. It was almost as big as me, bright and colourful – and the only ball I could catch at the time!
After Christmas lunch which was loud and full of laughter as we ate our ham, chicken and roast veges. I immediately went outside and played with it.
But that wasn’t to last. The neighbourhood boys came over to play. They took a flying leap and jumped on top of it – and it popped! They went quiet, then laughed raucously.
I felt a huge disappointment. My present didn’t even last a day!
